You have found this site as a search combination of Sint Maarten and pickleball. Consider staying at The Cliff if you are planning to visit this lovely island and want to play pickleball as well. You would have access to our two pickleball courts, which are not available to the public.
The Cliff is also home to Mario’s Bistro, one of the best restaurants on the island.
Now that the high season is drawing to an end on St Maarten, it has proven to be an excellent year, with a number of very good pickleball players visiting the island.
Sabina – New Hampshire (the new Pickleball Queen of SM)
Jim – Ontario, Canada
Mike – Scottsdale
Bob – St George, Ut
Dustin / Lindsay – Syracuse, NY
Harris / Kelsy – CA / CO
Ralph – Vancouver
Dave / Trish – Boston
Mark / Marie-Jacque – Fort Walton Beach
Aaron / Nicole / Ted / Vicky – Indianapolis
Justin – Rochester, NY
Please come back and play with us again in future years!!
There is a second public pickleball court on Sint Maarten, this one at the Simpson Bay Resort. They have open pickleball most days in the morning at 9:00.
The court is tucked into a corner of tennis court 1b, with limited space behind both baselines and one of the sidelines. But it should be very playable for beginning and intermediate players. Hopefully SBR will see the popularity at their one court so they consider adding pickleball lines to one or more of their existing tennis courts.
SBR charges $35 per month for tennis; I am uncertain of their cost for pickleball play.
I started this blog a few years ago because Marty and I could not find a place to play pickleball on the island.
Finally, now, success! There are two pickleball courts with public access at Port de Plaisance.

My purpose for starting this blog is now complete! But, when you are coming to the island, please connect with me. Possibly Marty and I can join us to play while you are visiting the island.
Marty and I flew back to the US on a repatriation flight today. The Covid-19 virus threw the island and the entire world for a loop over the past few months.
As documented in my earliest posts, we could not find a court to play pickleball on the island. Compared to last year, this year was a great success. We appreciate the cooperation of Renate, Stephane and Samuel at Port de Plaisance Tennis Club for letting us use their tennis courts. Next year’s dream: dedicated pickleball courts.
Another great success was having 42 different people play with us over the past few months. We now have new pickleball friends from New Jersey, Illinois, Wisconsin, Florida, California, Boston, Pittsburgh, Toronto, Philadelphia, London, St Martin, Sint Maarten, as well as sailors visiting the island. We look forward to playing with each of them again next year.
We hope everyone has a safe summer and fall. We look forward to seeing everyone when we return to St Maarten in November.
Today is the final pickleball at The Cliff for the 2019 / 2020 season. The four participants: Sue from E1, Lawson from C8, Marty and Craig from E4. Here are a few videos from our final day (thank you to Claude in C3 for taking these videos).
Marty and Sue, our dear friend from England, played skinny singles at The Cliff. Both hit excellent shots – here are a few videos:
Marty et Sue, notre cher ami d’Angleterre, ont joué des singles maigres à The Cliff. Les deux ont atteint d’excellents plans – voici quelques vidéos:
St Maarten has announced a phased re-opening plan. It looks like pickleball, along with other non-contact sports, will be allowed to be played again on the island starting on May 18. Who knows, maybe if we are really lucky we can play a real game later this month with some of our other St Maarten / St Martin pickleball friends.
Our group last played pickleball at Port de Plaisance on March 12, almost two months ago. Many people left the island before the shutdown of the airport on March 22. The island has been in a State of Emergency since April 6.
Everyone on the island is required to Stay at Home. Luckily, our ‘home’ at The Cliff includes a tennis court with pickleball lines and a portable net.
Marty and I have tried to play ‘skinny singles’ a few times each week. She is getting much, much better. I told her that her friends in Minneapolis will not recognize her pickleball game when we return.
